You may have seen your dog having a chow down on the grass in the garden and thought it strange. Does he think he’s a cow? Does it mean he has an upset stomach? Or is he just hungry?
Research has shown that eating grass doesn’t necessarily mean your dog needs to vomit and many dogs just eat grass because they like the taste! Luckily grass is fully of fibre so not necessarily bad for your dog.
There was an experiment in ‘Applied Animal Behaviour Science’ which studies 25 dogs, who all ate grass. Only 8% of the dogs threw up after eating grass and they all remained healthy throughout the study.
If your dog keeps eating grass, is throwing up afterwards, and is off his food; always better to get the vet to give him a look-over. If it’s just occasionally though, I wouldn’t worry too much
